  • Emotional and General Mental-health Support: If you, or someone you know, is either experiencing emotional distress or would like to learn about mental-health supports that are available in B.C., please call 310-6789 (no area code required).

  • General Mental-health Support: If you are experiencing distress and need to speak to a trained counsellor, there are 24-hour helplines available for adults and youth across Canada.

  • Adults: 1-866-585-0445 Youth: 1-800-668-6868

  • In B.C., please call 811 (711 for individuals who have hearing deficits) or visit https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/mental-health-support-in-bc for a directory of mental-health supports available to you.

  • Indigenous Mental-health Support: If you, or someone you know, is indigenous and in need of urgent counselling support, please call the Hope for Wellness hotline at 1.855.242.3310. The hotline is staffed with trained counsellors, is available in multiple indigenous languages, and is open 24-hours a day.

  • Suicide: If you, or someone you know, is thinking about suicide, please call 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433). Signs of suicidal behaviour can include, but are not limited to:

  • withdrawing from friends, family, and intimate partners;

  • significant changes to sleep and eating routines;

  • increase in risky behaviours (e.g., unsafe sex, drug and alcohol use, and a general disregard for personal safety);

  • significant decline in work or school performance;

  • dramatic alterations to daily activities, dress, and relationships with others;

  • giving away meaningful possessions;

  • increased irritability; and

  • having or sharing thoughts about suicide.

  • Poisoning: If you are concerned that you you, or someone you know, has been exposed to a poison or a toxic substance, please call Poison Control at 1-800-567-8911.
